Unique Opportunities for Trainees

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is committed to the development of residents and fellows beyond the requirements of their training programs. We support a number of resident and fellow led groups designed to further personal and professional growth.

Duke Minority Housestaff Association
This organization has been created to foster a community of wellness for trainees that are underrepresented within medicine, promote professional development through mentorship and forums, assist in diversity recruitment efforts, and lead service initiatives in our local community.

Coalition of Black Physicians
Founded in 2014 by African-American resident physicians in Durham, North Carolina, CBP represents a community of talented individuals who are ready to tackle inequality in healthcare. In our community, unapologetic blackness and excellence go hand-in-hand.  Our actions will speak volumes to those who will not hear our words.  Join us on our journey.

GME Patient Safety and Quality Council
The PSQC is a multidisciplinary group formed in 2009 to facilitate each resident's understanding of his or her individual role and responsibility in providing a safe environment for patient care. The scope of GME PSQC includes assessing and addressing curricular requirements and hidden curricular influences on GME trainee education in quality and patient safety and those issues that impact patients and their families. The purpose of the GME PSQC is to advance knowledge and skills related to quality and patient safety and facilitate implementation of GME trainees into health system initiatives.

GMEC Subcommittees
Each Subcommittee will be responsible for the following broad areas, as indicated in the ACGME Institutional and Common Program Requirements, and serve as a sounding board to promote bidirectional information exchange between trainees, program directors and the GMEC Executive Committee about pertinent issues that are relevant to GME training at Duke. Wellbeing, CLER, Accreditation, and Professional Development.

Housestaff Association for Sexual and Gender Diversity
The Duke GME Housestaff Association for Sexual and Gender Diversity welcomes resident, fellow, and faculty members of Duke GME who identify as a sexual or gender minority, as well as allies whose professional goals align with our tenets.

Duke GME Medical Education Leadership Track (MELT) program is designed to help train new leaders in Medical Education. Through this one-year, longitudinal, interactive curriculum led by content experts, we are able to equip our residents and fellows with tools to help transform their clinical teaching and approach to medical education scholarship.

Resident Council
The Resident Council is a peer-selected group of GME residents and fellows who are responsible for representing resident concerns and issues variety of capacities at the institutional level.
